The Evolution of Social Media Marketing

The phrase ‘social media marketing’ has evolved so much that it is incomplete without the word ‘real-time’. With so many competitors vying for the consumer’s attention on different social media platforms, the consumer’s attention span has been tremendously reduced. Previously, companies could take a couple of days to reply appropriately to a consumer but, not just since Oreo’s Super Bowl tweet, real-time response times have become necessary. That’s why it is vital for companies and brands to have a keen ear for the consumer’s voice on different social media platforms – real-time listening and real-time reactions are not optional anymore, but essential to stay in the game.

Pinterest’s Potential

This article is a must-read to understand Pinterest’s untapped potential. The user profile and usage statistics shared about the visual social media platform is an eye-opener for marketers as well as individual users. With its gender-imbalanced audience, it is obvious that Pinterest is not for everyone – at least not yet compared to other social media platforms. Pinterest is built for creating but it actually thrives on its sharing feature (repins). Also, Pinterest is relatively new to advertising but it recently introduced promoted pins and the signs are encouraging – if used cleverly, it can bring more visitors to your main business or website.

Facebook’s Native Video

Facebook’s forceful approach to its native video is proving to be a formidable challenge for YouTube. The social media giant aims to keep users within its own platform through native videos. In a relatively short period of time, Facebook’s native videos have proved to be a big hit with brands, especially now during the Super Bowl season. The bigger preview size of Facebook’s videos seems to be the biggest visual difference in comparison to YouTube’s videos. However, Facebook’s finer targeting capabilities will make it the preferred video channel for big brands which benefit from serving entirely different video ads to different target groups. YouTube is still far ahead in terms of video viewing time, but it will be interesting to see how the battle for a rapidly growing format is fought and won.

Social Media-Trends in Europe, for the year 2015

As the new year dawned, the internet was awash with predictions and trend forecasts. Although we have all seen and read an avalanche of predictions, there are two reasons why we selected this particular trend forecast to share with you. Number one, it is Europe-centric and number two, instead of a number of predictions from one expert or opinion leader, this article offers the opinions of multiple key influencers – Digital Marketing Officers, Strategists, Social Media Directors – from all over Europe. It gives us a fair direction of where leading companies are steering themselves in the social media and digital marketing space.
